Series of textile experiments inspired by rhymes of rock life cycle
Short life that only lasts a moment , hardly can we catch the time of flow?
Timeless
Be tough and strong
Resistance to change as rocks
Encounter different erosions and weathering in our life
Don’t go with the flow
Transform into different forms
With great foundations
And Stay in the moment.

“Measured flow or movement, rhythm; proportion, symmetry; arrangement, order; form, shape, wise, manner; soul, disposition”
From the smallest details of rock textures, to the largest mountains and hills. Rock cycle never stops, everlasting and eternal.
Dynamic is a series of five swatches which discovering rhyme in rocks.
When it comes to rocks, we can usually think about it toughness and stable. However, instead of thinking of immutable and fixed, I would love to unearth its flowing structures and life cycles. The color palette is inspired by rocks. The techniques. The materials are being thoughtfully used. Instead of making large scaled products, I would love to show the vast expanse by mighty and detailed crafts.
In the fast-moving society, we need to be tough and strong, resistance to change as rocks, encounter different erosions and weathering in our life. Instead of be with the flow, be into different forms with great foundations.
Discover the Everlasting Lifecycle of rocks

Materials: Silk Polyester, Sublimation Inks, Brown Leather
Techniques: Mark Making, Repeated Patterns, Sublimation Screen Printing, Laser Cutting, Free Hand Embroidery
The first swatch visualizes the rock life cycle from Indigenous to Sedimentary to Metamorphism. Mark making and repeated patterns are practiced and results in sublimation screen printing on velvet. The shiny, reflective surface of velvet and free- hand embroidery with golden lurex well showing numerous stock of natural resources hidden in rocks which will never run out.

Demonstrate the spectacular hills made of Indigenous rocks and its hexagonal joints
Another experiment presents the shapes, form, arrangement, symmetry of indigenous rocks. Natural flat-grainy and weathered leather well present the roughness and texture of rocks. Mountain inspired marks are repeated and screen printed on shiny silky polyester to demonstrate the magnificent hills. Hexagonal joints of indigenous rocks which form mountains are laser cut.

Visualise the wavy, compacted, layered sedimentary rocks

Materials: Wool, Eucalyptus Leaves, Wool Yarns
Techniques: Natural Dyeing, Knitting (Basic and Ladder), Needle Felting
Then the wavy swatch display the compacted sedimentary rocks layers. Sediments are put down and pushed by water. After years and years of sedimentations, layers are formed and the process keep on going. After resist eucalyptus dyeing which create lines of layers, the knitted ladder and changing color pieces are partly felted into the dyed piece and created constructive waves.

The fourth swatch is similar to the previous one yet showing the internal process of geographical plates including convergent, divergent and transform. The plate motions change the geography from the past, to present , to our future. It is a simple etching swatch after lots of experimentations on different fabrics after drawings.

Observe plate tectonics and internal process of metamorphic rocks

Materials: Blended Polyester Fabrics
Techniques: Laser Cutting (Etching)
Present brick walls and its variations

Materials: Blended Yarns, Wool Yarns, Metallic Yarns
Techniques: Weaving, Ladder Knitting, Needle Felting
Final swatch will connect rocks to our daily living by weaving brick walls. The golden knitting on top showing the opportunities and variations of rock forms. From rock, we can create buildings, pottery or anything more.
