Up cycling the most common fabrics - jeans are in line with my values -
Sustainable, Down to Earth,
When I first collected the loose trouser pieces I have been deciding to up cycle them to functional products. I always want to stitch on the pieces but the project was stranded and I am always busy to develop the concepts. While studying textile 2 last term and learnt laser cutting, as well as seeing my friend’s amazing artwork, I was fired with afflatus and inspiration. Last six months I have been slowly developing and bring in lot of considerations to the work and study at the same time.
I enjoy slow making and crafting to create delicate and precise work so for personal project, I can make better work in my own pace and time. Each piece of denims is being tested of the laser cutting energy and speed, as well as being measured and cut by 6x10cm to form tidy fabric and not to affect the effects of the etching patterns. Free hand stitching patterns are similar to my friend work’s message about shining, especially in the dark.
As my name implies the the expression of warm approval and admiration, I really appreciate all of my talented friends(also those not my friends yet!) and want to collaborate with them! Thanks for being part of the project and being my beautiful friend! This is my first time self learning and creating usable fabrics, still got rooms for improvements.

Do you know which type of denim you are wearing? Stretch, Poly, Raw?
Denim as our daily life essentials, comes from the word Serge de Nîmes, which refers to a particular type of fabric that was produced in Nimes, a town in France. It is popular across national and cultural boundaries nowadays since the wide range of products from apparel, accessories to homeware.
This type of fabric is dyed(usually indigo) cotton yarn woven in warp-faced style. There are a range of fabric characteristics in view of elasticity, colours, breathability, blends! It is made of three main stages including cotton cultivation, processing and dyeing.
While denim is a timeless fabrics never get out-dated and popular among the masses,we need to wear it more sustainable, including care and recycle. What we do and how we live matter.
