 MOVEMENT OF LIFE

Year 2 Object 3 Assessment 2 - Biophilia

Love of living things and nature, which some people believe humans are born with:

Biophilia, the inborn affinity human beings have for other forms of life.

In this assessment, we create objects that bring us closer to understanding the natural world

CRAFT AND
TECHNOLOGY

As a life-centred crafter who loves all living creatures in our world, I would like to strengthen the relationship between humans and nature by creating a spinning globe light installation which is surrounded by the five main elements on our earth.

 FIVE ELEMENTS ON EARTH

I believe that nature is the light on our planet which nourish lives.
The five elements of Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, Soil shape our earth and basic necessities of our lives.

WOOD

Dremel Pinewood Kerf Laser Cutting for bending

FIRE

Hand Written Plan and Fabrication And Technical Drawings by fusion 360 an Adobe Illustraoor

 PLANET

3D printed white PLA with the use of fusion 360 and Aobe Illustrator

EARTH

Burnt-out ceramics of free hand crochet piece

WATER

Etched Photos on Perspex

METAL

For the Metal element, the transformation process of the minerals on our earth are showcased through mineral patterns with organic colours.

The ribbon form and spinning globe lighting represent the cyclical life with dynamic changes and energy flows. The elements create life on earth and  undergo eternal change, creation, destruction and transformation, which is mutually reinforce and neutralise each other.

More Work In Progress

My design object combines the organic and artificial in both hand-made and technological processes, as I believe it represents how nature and humans have a symbiotic relationship.

While we absorbing new technologies, we should embrace the imperfections in nature and pay homage to traditions. In order to preserve the raw sensitivities given by the Earth, we have the responsibility to unleash our creativity and practice sustainability to create a better future.

Nothing stays the same, but the cycle of life is everlasting and ephemeral.

Be present, cherish what we have and live in the moment.

Be your own flow and movement.
